Heat stress is a physiological response to the combined effect of high ambient temperature and relative humidity of the air. Increased air humidity at any temperature always impairs the animal’s welfare and is likely to promote heat stress. Heat stress occurs if an animal is outside its thermoneutral zone and struggles to regulate its body temperature. Consequently, animal health, well-being and performance are negatively affected.
